Living a Vacation by Paul Russell

Hiya. I'm Paul Russell, April's husband, and I'll be filling in today for April. I'm at work (don't tell anyone) so I'll try to keep this brief so I don't get fired, but I wanted to share something.

My job has taken us to Perdido Key and we LOVE it. We haven't really been able to vacation since we've been married due to schedules and us making babies regularly, so this is such a blessing. I'm still working basically everyday, but it's more lax than usual for my job so we do get some time to goof off and do vacation-like things. I'm glad that my beautiful wife has some fun things to get into while I'm at work though. It's much better than working in Hammond, LA. Ugh.

I was thinking this morning about some of the vacations I took with my family when I was growing up. We went to Gatlinburg seemingly every year since the end of the Jimmy Carter administration. There are MANY awesome memories that I have of those trips. I'll never forget driving through Cades Cove and searching the woods for deer and bear, riding the Slidewinder at Dollywood, and riding the karts at The Track. I actually even had a black bear jump up on my grandma's station wagon that I was in the back of one time. It's a good thing I knew how to communicate "We come in peace. Here is a piece of chicken." Those nature books come in handy.

April tells me that her best vacation memories were in Hot Springs. Shopping downtown, riding the "duck things" in the water, and rock candy suckers were among her best memories. What about you and your family? We would love to hear some of the best vacation moments you had growing up. See ya in the comments!

  1. Lots of vacations to remember. Too many for just a comment. You guys live in a great place. We live in Wichita, KS. Good place to work and raise kids, but a vacation pretty much means going somewhere else. Most memorable: Colorado - Durango, Sliverton, Ouray and thereabouts. River rafting, 4 wheeling, riding the steam train. 60 feet of snow in the passes...in June. Gotta go back for zip lining one of these days. We ran out of time.

  2. I was thinking about this, and mine would be with my Mom, Dad, and Nick baney in Crested Butte Colorado. My mom looked out the window and noticed a naked man in the hot tub! We all gathered around the window to laugh and Nick was the first to notice he was doing something very inappropriate!! We were all cracking up and then we got mad (it was a public hot tub for the inn) and Nick said "let's get him." So we ran down there and Nick started yelling at the guy catching him offguard and the look on his face was priceless. I was crying laughing because it was so awkward and the next morning my dad told the lady at the front desk what had happened (which was even MORE awkward!) Needless to say they drained the hot tub the next day. Good times.
